Bangkok has the reputation of being one of THE "boom towns" of Asia and part of the so-called Tiger economy. I am never sure whether that is named after the famous Asian beer, an avaricious attitude to work or from the indigenous animal but whatever the reason it is clear that there is a lot going and much of this activity is centered in and around Bangkok.
